I've headed up the ski tests for the past two years, and one of the biggest surprises from testing has been the evolution of shaped skis. Making a definite prominence in the market is HO Sports. Part of the Competition/Freeride Series, the Burner is a high-performance ski that is fun and easy to ride. This ski has the same high-performance bevels as the CDX except a full half-inch was added to the width. A great all-around ski that covers a broad range in ability levels. From the first-time skier to the shortest of shortline slalom (at 34 mph and below), the Burner has got you covered. Minimal effort from the skier, with great stability.
When HO Sports was filming its 2000 product video in Orlando, I had the opportunity to see Wade Cox run 41 off at 34 mph on the Burner with ease. It was only his third set on the ski and he was ripping it up into world-record line lengths. No longer should shaped skis be thought of as your typical “wally” rides. They're the REAL DEAL.
