We love this time of year. Inviting readers into our inner circle of swerve for our annual Ultimate Fantasy Camp is one of the high points of the editorial calendar. What could be better than gathering a group of stoked skiers from across the planet and mixing them with an elite crew of MasterCraft slalom specialists for three days of instruction, competition and free-flowing fellowship at one of the most idyllic ski resorts in Florida?
When we extended an open invitation to our second annual event, we never expected to have so much trouble choosing which hopeful readers to invite. Applications came from folks of all ages, skill levels and walks of life. And after combing through dozens of applications that literally oozed ski passion, narrowing down the field to only 14 began to hurt. But when our happy campers began arriving to the heavenly Swiss Ski School in Clermont, Florida, from as far away as Greece, Germany and Australia, we knew good times would be quick to follow.
On tap for the diverse group of campers, who ranged in age from 18 to 53, were luxury accommodations, gourmet food from Creative Events Catering, lakeside massages, ample nighttime revelry and two days of one-on-one instruction with our stable of top MasterCraft pros — Wade Cox, Karen Truelove, Seth Stisher and Thomas Moore. We also provided ski-specific clinics by a personal trainer and nutritionist. Not to mention, world-class pulls behind the pros' personal ProStar 197s and a clinic-climaxing pro-am tourney. And for the finale: exclusive, unrestricted access to our 2008 WaterSki magazine Team Challenge, where our campers were the only spectators on-site to witness an all-out slugfest between the world's top swervers. The “Joes” even got the chance to ride shotgun in the boat during the tournament. Where else can you get that close to the action?
Yes… we had a blast. And we are sorry you couldn't make it. But so you don't feel left out, we asked the pros to share some of the most valuable instruction they offered to our Fantasy Campers. And for dessert, there's a buffet of snapshots of our guests' “downtime” activities, available online at waterskimag.com/fantasycamp. Does this sound like fun to you? Then make sure you don't miss out next summer. We'll be looking forward to it all winter long.
WaterSki Fantasy Camp 2008 would not have been the success it was without the stellar training facility and waterfront accommodations offered by Swiss Ski School in Clermont, Florida. With four world-class lakes nesteled among towering pine trees, the scenic environment and laid-back atmosphere offer the perfect retreat for visiting skiers who want to hone their skills while enjoying Orlando's attractions. If you're ready for the dream water-ski holiday, the friendly staff at Swiss Ski School is awaiting your call.
