Ambassador of the Year
Known for many years as one of water skiing’s driving greats, with or without speed control, Dana Reed (1955-2012) contributed more to our sport than just standout driving. He launched Pro Slalom Events, LLC in 2004, focusing first on women’s pro tournaments and later men’s. In 2010 he took over promotion of the Malibu Open and hosted the event in downtown Milwaukee, a grand stage in a state that has supported water skiing since its start. This year’s women’s slalom champ at the Open, Regina Jaquess, had this to say about Reed: “Dana positively effected thousands of people in thousands of different ways. To be able to do that takes someone that is willing to put all his needs to the side. Dana has influenced drivers, sponsors, tournament organizers, and even the athletes, making us all better. There are many things I will miss about Dana, but I do know the one thing he wanted to be remembered for, and that is The Malibu Open.” No magazine tribute can come close to fully honoring Reed for his huge heart and tireless work for water skiing. Dana, we salute you!
