Ryan Dodd’s Quick-Hit Get-to-Know
What would you be doing if you weren’t a jumper?
I don’t know. Since I was 10 years old, that’s the only thing I ever thought I’d be doing, so I really haven’t thought about it. I have no idea. If I couldn’t ski anymore, though, I’d just be trying to help people have the same opportunities I had.
Your favorite song right now?
I don’t have one. I’m pretty boring right now. When I’m working out, I listen to metal, electronica or dub step — it just depends on my mood. At nighttime, I’m listening to relaxation music just to calm down.
Does Breanne have a nickname for you?
I don’t think she does. I think if anyone’s trying to get a nickname, it’s my buddy Igor (Morozov). He’s trying to call me “Mega-Dodd,” and I’m resisting it. He’s trying to label me Mega-Dodd!
Who’s your idol?
Growing up, it was definitely Jaret Llewellyn. I think for kids coming up in skiing, he’s definitely a great person to look up to as an athlete, as a person and as a mentor.
Your favorite quote?
“Sometimes the worst situations turn out to be the best opportunities.” I won’t say I live by this, but this has helped me out a lot.
Your favorite thing to do to relax?
I like surfing. It just seems to calm me down, and it’s a good way to reflect. Anything really out in nature — mountain biking, surfing. Meditating has really helped me to relax and sort of reflect.
The social media site you use the most?
Pretty much just Facebook. Breanne uses Instagram and she loves Pinterest. I get so annoyed with learning something new, especially with technology. So I just stuck with Facebook, and I use Twitter a bit.
Your favorite pet?
Well, we had a cat, but it passed away a day before Moomba. Actually, though, we have these two huge ducks living on our lake now. They’re Muscovy ducks, and I fed them once. Now I have this huge male duck run up to me from the dock, wagging it’s tail. The mom duck has like 14 eggs, so I might have some new pets soon.
