This weekend, there were water-ski records falling left and right at tournaments across the United States for skiers from Chile, Canada, New Zealand, and the United States. Even a pending world trick record was broken.
Erika Lang tricks 10,180 points
Erika Lang set a pending world trick record of 10,180 points this past weekend in El Centro, California, at the Imperial Lakes Skiers Choice Record. If approved by the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation’s Tournament Council, the score will eclipse the current record of 10,040 points set by France’s Clementine Lucine at the Alexis Pickos Open in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, on Sept. 18, 2011.
Trent Finlayson 4 buoys at 41 off
Trent Finlayson ties the Canadian slalom record of 4 buoys at 41 off at Big Jims Buoy Bash 2 tournament in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. Drew Ross broke the Canadian slalom record in 2002 and has had it ever since. Now, both Jason McClintock, who also tied Ross’ record earlier this year, Finlayson and Ross all share the Canadian slalom ski record of 4 buoys at 41 off.
Aaron Larkin 3 buoys at 41 off
Larkin says, “I have run 1 1/2 or 2 buoys at 41 off 55 times before getting to 3 at 41 off.” His previous PB took place almost nine years ago at the age of 27. Now 36 years-old, Larkin scored 3 buoys at 41 off to tie Steve Cockeram’s long-time New Zealand record.
Neilly Ross tricks 7,150 points
Just 12 years old and already putting up huge trick scores, Neilly Ross, Drew Ross’ daughter, knows how to swerve buoys like her father (having broken the Canadian Girls 2 slalom record with 1 buoy at 38 off a couple weekends ago), and now, she has broken another Canadian Girls 2 trick record of 7,150 points at Splasheye Rocketman Trick and Jump tournament in Polk City, Florida, breaking her previous record of 6,930 points.
Samantha Dumala 1 buoy at 39 off
Sixteen year-old Samantha Dumala broke Regina Jaquess, Caroline Hensley, and Makayla Haw’s national Girl’s 3 U.S. record of 4 buoys at 38 off with a huge score of 1 buoy at 39 1/2 off.
Fernanda Naser 4 1/2 buoys at 35 off
A new Chilean Girls 3 and women’s slalom record was broken by 17-year-old Fernanda Naser, who skied 4 1/2 buoys at 35 off at Big Jims Buoy Bash in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.
Kris LaPoint 1 buoy at 41 off
Skiing legend Kris LaPoint has been breaking records ever since he was 13-years old. His most recent Men’s 6 record of 1 at 41 off took place at Big Jim’s Buoy Bash in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida at the age of 60.
