EXPERIENCE THE MALIBU DIFFERENCE IN A WAKEBOARD SERIES
Mailbu Boats takes a fresh approach to competition wakeboard events with the Just Ride Series.
(Merced, CA) ? The Malibu Just Ride Series throws a huge tantrum in the face of strait-laced competition and sticks the landing. Together with the world?s top-ranked wakeboarders and World Publications, Malibu Boats has designed a one-of-a-kind three-stop wakeboard series that will change the way spectators and competitors think of wakeboard events.
The President and CEO of Malibu Boats, Bob Alkema, sums-up the inception of the Malibu Just Ride Series with one statement, ?Thinking outside of the box defines who we are.?
Malibu set out to help create a wakeboard tournament that steered clear of that same old layout. This new style of competition is tailored to wakeboarding and the unique style and personality its competitors and enthusiasts possess. The atmosphere is relaxed and the main goal is to put on the best show possible and have fun doing it.
?Leaders don?t set the agenda, decide where they?re going and then try to get everybody to follow. Leaders try to find out where people want to go and take then there.? Explains Alkema.
Malibu Boats and World Publications gather the world?s top wakeboarding professionals and asked them what they wanted in a tournament. This round table discussion included names like Shaun Murray, Zane Schwenk and Gerry Nunn. The pros called for a set of competitions that would allow them to go all out for the fans without the pressures of the typical tournament. It was this open dialogue that laid the foundation for the Malibu Just Ride Series.
?The format we came up with is great for the fans.? Said Lani Farmer, Director of Events for Malibu Boats. ?They can get really close to the pros who will show up not with the pressure of competition, but just to have fun and go all out. We hope they leave everything out there on the water. And, for the fans we want them to feel like they?ve been to a great party, that just happens to be a wakeboarding event.?
Along with this fresh format approach, the Malibu Just Ride Series is sporting a tremendous set of venues. The series will be making its stops in Austin, Texas, Lake Havasu, Arizona and Sacramento, California. These areas were specifically chosen for sweet wakeboarding conditions and a predisposition for hardcore fun.
Pro riders will be competing, judging and driving in the event. The best part is, there are no penalties for falls. Riders can go for big air without the threat of point deductions for crrashes. They may even get a trophy for sitting down. Riders will receive awards daily for best crash, best trick, biggest air and best use of sliders.
Riders will have five minutes to throw as many tricks as they can. This shred-time will be divided between sliders and the rampy wake of Malibu?s Wakesetter VLX. As riders make their way through the course, the boat path is entirely up to them and the ?pro rider partner in crime? at the wheel.
Speaking of ?partners in crime?, only those riders who defy the law of gravity will be summoned to the Malibu Just Ride Series. Riders being called to compete may include Scott Byerly, Gregg Necrasson, Ricky Gonzales, Darin Shapiro, Parks Bonifay and Shaun Murray. Big-air offenders like these don?t come quietly, so look out.
For those riders who do not make the most wanted list, there is still a chance. Two riders will be allowed to battle their way into the finals through a challenge round evaluated on slide ability by other professional riders.
The best woman in wakeboarding will also be invited to compete. Little ladies like Tara Hamilton and Dallas Friday may be among the woman riders who will showcase their monstrous tricks on the water.
Although the Malibu Just Ride Series is a pro event, Malibu Boats did not want to exclude the pros of tomorrow. Junior men will have the opportunity to compete in front of their favorite professional riders. A few lucky newbies will even get to hang out in the boat during the pro competition. What a ride.
