Squash the family bickering over the inboard versus V-drive boat
purchase because Malibu has created the best of both worlds in the
brand-new Sunsetter 21 XTi. This cross-training machine blends the
agile, aggressive handling of a mid-engine boat with the social
layout of a V-drive.
One look inside this model had us marveling over the
feature-laden luxuries that will appeal to the whole family. Take
for instance the rear wraparound lounge area, which creates a cozy
environment for up to five people. Ergonomically formed seats
padded with variable-density foam and a 27-quart ice chest add the
final touches to this social haven.
Driving the Sunsetter 21 Xti, we were aware of its
responsiveness and true inboard handling despite its V-drive flare.
The captain of this boat gets a six-position swivel driver’s
seat with lumbar support, easy-to-read 5-inch Borg Warner gauges
complete with air and water temperature readouts, and a well-placed
armrest and throttle position, perfect for instant response and
holding speed for any water sport.
In our test, we found the Sunsetter 21 Xti just as confident
with advanced slalom pulls as with big air moves off the wake. For
true crossover appeal, we recommend adding the optional Wedge and
the Malibu Launch System that offers 500 pounds of ballast.
You’ll see the quick transformation from tournament-ready ski
wakes to crisp and clean swells for advanced-level wakeboarding. Of
course, no more family bickering alone may be worth the price.
•One of the best choices for families who like to ski and

•Wedge and midship ballast system options transform this
model into a great crossover boat, with wakes for a variety of
activities and skill levels.

you’d expect from a Malibu inboard.
