play a quick game of word association. When we say
“direct-drive wakeboard boat,” what are the first words
that come to mind? Some people might say “uncool,”
“cramped,” even “meek.” Take a look at the
Tige 21i Type R, though, and you’ll be saying
“sweet,” “spacious,” even
what we’re talking about. This model is the extreme version
of the 21i Limited in both style and wakeboarding performance.
Bolder graphics and a showy tower embody the cool factor, while a
much more serious ballast configuration, combined with the
TAPS-variable ConvexV hull, transforms calm slalom wakes into
monstrous swells. A two- or four-bag system can augment the already
formidable 600-pound semipermanent carpeted ballast for a total of
1,600 pounds of wake-carving weight. The TAPS shift-on-the-fly
system can customize the ramp length and vert size. Riding behind
it on pro-level wakes, you may forget this is a direct-drive,
though the driver will appreciate the inboard handling.
might also say “forget it” to any beam not as wide as
this boat’s 102-inch expanse. The extra width opens up space
where you need it most. The observer’s seat, the walkways
around the engine box and the swim platform are especially
spacious. The rear bench can accommodate five adults, a rare feat.
Even better, that seating converts into a rear-facing skybox for a
choice view of the aquatic action. Lift up the gull-wing sun pad to
access the rear storage locker, and find a lot more hidden space
under the bow seats for all the other bulky gear you brought
course, this Type R doesn’t ignore its Type S users; slalom
skiers can have their fun too. This is an inboard at heart, after
all. Just dump the optional ballast and dial down TAPS to your
favorite setting for small skiing wakes that will give you a
recreational set on the open water. Then let the boat revert back
to its true nature, an extra-wide, extra-edgy wakeboarding
•Massive ballast options offer up to 1,600 pounds of weight
for extreme wakes.
•The ConvexV hull and TAPS plate work together to tailor
wakes from recreational skiing to advanced riding.
•The super-wide 102-inch beam really opens up the interior
space and storage.
•Rear bench can seat the rears of five adults and converts
to skybox seating — both impressive feats.
•Deep freeboard and broad base provide a nice sense of
security and a stable ride for passengers.
•Bold hull graphics help define the boat with wakeboarding
