When Malibu announced it had redesigned the hull of the Response LXi, a lot of heads turned. The water-skiing powerhouse was already one of the best ski boats on the planet, having pulled Chris Parrish to a slalom world record in 2005. But for 2007, the designers have gone back to the drawing board to re-create the legendary hull once again. The newest incarnation of Malibu's flagship three-event ski boat features the all-new Cut Diamond hull, designed for an optimal slalom wake and trick table, as well as a reinvigorated interior and graphics package that mirrors its high-performance personality.
At first glance, it may appear that not much has changed on the Response LXi. After all, the length and width–where many boat companies make their biggest alterations–are unchanged from the 2006 edition. The real change has taken place on the running surface. The strakes on the hull have been repositioned to better control the flow beneath the boat and therefore displace less water and create a flatter, softer wake. Of course, there's only so much a boat like this can be improved. It has always been terrific at even the shortest line lengths at 36 mph.
Passengers will also notice a smoother ride in adverse conditions. The open bow was slightly deepened and sits up higher, so it is much less susceptible to taking on water compared to other boats in its size class. Whether fighting through other boats' rollers or just crossing the chop of a bigger lake, this LXi can handle it better than ever.
