The Outback V is Moomba’s most inexpensive V-drive, which says a lot. This brand prides itself on offering great value and performance to customers looking to enter the inboard water-sports market. To that end, the Outback V is ideal. For a base price of only $32,000, buyers get a hand-laid-fiberglass boat with a deep wraparound lounge that families love and that people trading up from stern-drives have come to expect. Unexpected are the convertible rear seating and the great multisport capabilities that make this a fun (and easy) boat to own.
This model is similar to the direct-drive Outback, except of course for the V-drive configuration of the engine. That doesn’t just open up passenger seating and legroom in the middle of the boat–it shifts weight to the rear to optimize the wakeboarding wakes as well. Run the boat in the high teens and low 20s to see how the stern digs lower into the water for bigger wakes, while the special design of the hull gives those wakes defined shapes tailored for wakeboarders. Yet the size of the boat is comparable to that of most ski-specific direct-drive models, meaning it retains that responsive handling that allows for confident turning to both sides. It also has a fairly soft wake at skiing speeds into the high 20s to mid-30s.
If you’re just getting into wakeboarding, the standard Outback V will get you started. But if you’re already hooked on the sport–which you probably are–consider adding the Rad-a-Cage tower, three-bag ballast system and hydraulic wake plate.
