Moomba 2005 Outback LSV

Moomba Outback LSV

The best pure family boat from Moomba is, hands down, the Outback LSV. For starters, it's practical: It's easy to tow at a weight of 3,000 pounds, and it can fit in the garage at 95 inches wide and 20 feet, 8 inches long (without the 2-foot swim platform). The LSV also comes with a V-drive Indmar engine, popular of course with wakeboarders but appreciated by parents who love the resulting wraparound lounge and rear placement of a ski pylon. The kids can sit anywhere, from the convertible rear-facing bench next to the transom sun pad all the way up to the open bow. Multiple storage compartments, such as an in-floor locker, and 10 cup holders come in handy, too.
All of that isn't to say that the Outback LSV is about as sexy as a minivan. It's an exciting drive, with a respectable hole shot and sporty handling. Behind the boat, the rush continues, whether you're skiing or wakeboarding.

Sure, it's a V-drive, but at skiing speeds the hull quiets down the turbulence behind the boat, while the 95-inch beam makes your wake crossings manageable. Free skiers in the family will love the crossover performance between skiing and riding.

OK, we admit the Outback LSV may appear safe and sensible on the surface, but look down that list of options and you can create a wakeboarding machine. Out of the box, beginning riders will get their kicks, but add ballast, a tower and a wake plate, and intermediate riders will get their fill too, on clean wakes with great shape and size.

• Designed with families in mind.
• Enough interior space to accommodate kids and gear, yet in a sensible sub-21-foot size for easy trailering and on-water handling.
• Sun pad offers lots of room to lie out, while three-piece cover opens for storage and engine access.
• Adds to the fun of water sports beyond what an I/O runabout can offer.
